Far East/Mulan Inspired Party

One of daughter's favorite princesses is Mulan.
*Sigh*
She's one of mine also. We love the movie, and the second one. We watch it ALL the time.
So when daughter told me she wanted a pink Mulan party for her birthday, I was happy to oblige. Well, sort of. I'm not one for going all character theme-y, so I adjusted it a bit here and tweaked it a little over there and we came up with an Asian inspired party. I was really excited for this party and to see how I could pull it all together. I was a little nervous too because my expertise in Asian culture goes as far as the Huns in Mulan and the mushroom chicken at Panda Express.
And in all my excitement, I hardly took a single picture. So here's what we got!

I focused a lot on pink because daughter did specify a PINK Mulan party. And I used a lot of pink and white cherry blossoms. I made the invitations with a little brown paint and hot glue and was thrilled with how they turned out. I didn't have any envelopes so I made envelopes with assorted scrapbook paper I had on hand.

I fell in love with the silk brocade fabric at Joann's and bought a couple yards to decorate the beverage and sweets table.

Our friends got daughter a beautiful dress and purse from China town and she was so happy to wear it!

I decorated with paper parasols, paper lanterns, and Asian influenced paper. I made tried to make a take out box pinata. It wouldn't break.Oops.

The kids all got painted chopsticks in fabric holders, wooden bookmarks, paper fans, and some panda cookies and jello straws from China Town. Each goody bag was packaged in take out boxes I bought from a little Chinese restaurant.

Our sweets were pink chocolate dipped fortune cookies, Chinese strawberry wafer cookies, rice krispie sushi treats and donut holes with whipped cream (by request).
Oh, and we played Mulan the movie on replay the whole time. :)

The silverware rolls included a set of wooden chopsticks. We had teriyaki beef and chicken, rice, chow mien, Chinese green salad, pot stickers, spring rolls and egg rolls with plum sauce and soy sauce. Oh and fruit. Can't have a menu without fruit. ;)

  4. Ok. First of all, you're possibly one of the coolest people I've ever met.
Next. I am starting the "League of Super-Crafty Super-Moms." The league now consist of you, Rae, and Jess.
(P.S. This is how I refer to all three of you ladies to everyone else I know. Literally. You've already been dubbed as such, so don't try to change it now.)
